Sunday Outreach Service – Amazing Grace: Visiting Preacher – John Goodwin

Tomorrow we'll have a special outreach service for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, at the social center Magnolia, a well known cultural meeting point right at the centre of Budrio.

We'll celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of John Newton, the former slave trader converted to Christ and author of the hymn 'Amazing Grace', whose political action guided William Wilberforce leading to the abolition of the slave trade in 1807 and finally, slavery itself throughout the British Empire in 1833.

 

For this we will have a special performance by the Vincenzo Grimaldi Ocarina School, featuring the ocarina players of the Ocarina Ensemble Budrio who will perform Amazing Grace.

Then the Chairs of the Christian Charity Transformed Lives in Bologna, will explain how human trafficking is a true modern slavery that robs people of their freedom and dignity!

John Goodwin, UFM missionary in Siena, will be preaching on the Gospel of Christ's Grace from 1Corinthians 15:1-11.

During the service we'll have a children's club where kids will engage with the same topic.

Stop the Traffik Conference & Amazing Grace Film

Tomorrow at 7pm in partnership with Budrio's Town Hall, we'll host an event for the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Cristhina and Anna, from the Christian Charity Transformed Lives in Bologna, will explain how Italy is one of the top destination countries for victims of sexual exploitation. It is also used as a transit country for victims coming from Eastern Europe and West Africa. Human trafficking is one of the most serious and brutal forms of human rights violations. Modern slavery that deprives people of their freedom and dignity! 

Giorgia, co-owner of the bookshop La Terza Stanza in Budrio, will present a book on the topic of violence against women and Maura, from our church, will present John Piper's book "The Roots of Endurance - Invincible Perseverance in the Lives of John Newton, Charles Simeon, and William Wilberforce".

Then at 8pm will watch the film Amazing Grace, chronicling the life and work of William Wilberforce, leader of the anti-slavery movement which led to the abolition of the slave trade in 1807, and eventually the abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire in 1833; and of his mentor John Newton, a former slave trader and author of the hymn 'Amazing Grace'.

Theology for Breakfast

Tomorrow we'll continue our series of meetings of Theology for Breakfast!
Following Luther's Table Talks example, we'll meet from 9am to 11am at Central Café in Mezzolara where, while enjoying a breakfast with capuccino & croissants, we'll engage with God's Word discovering the beauty of theology in our everyday life!

 

Together we'll interact with the module: Union with Christ, starting Unit 7: How Union With Christ Impacts Everyday Life

Union with Christ is the centre of the gospel. It’s been called the central doctrine of salvation. This course will teach you how the profound truth of a Christian's union and identity with Christ drives us to mission and joy in him. All that Christ has achieved for his people is ours through our union with him. Heart change and mission flow out of who Jesus is, and how we are bound to him by faith. This course will teach you to understand and enjoy your relationship with Jesus in everyday life on mission.

Impatto Italia Conference 2025 - Identity

From the 13th to the 16th of Novembre, as church family, we'll attend the Impatto Italia Conference 2025 - Identity: Union with Christ the center of everything!

Together we will drill-down into the wonder of solid theology which defines the best identity - union with Christ, and redefines all of life. Together with other church leaders and churches we will think through what it means to be healthy churches which are passionately missional and live out and bring the gospel of Jesus to this generation. We will explore how identity is so crucial in the planting and growing of such churches. Both in the plenaries, led by Sam, and in the seminars and breakouts, led by experienced men and women, this will be a unique opportunity to grow and mature. Firmly rooted in Christ!

The main speaker will be Sam Allberry: apologist and lecturer. He collaborates with the Keller Centre for Cultural Apologetics (TGC), and is co-host of the podcast You're Not Crazy: Gospel Sanity for Young Pastors. He is also the author of several books, including: Is God anti-gay?, Why Bother with Church?, 7 Myths about Singleness, What God Has To Say About Our Bodies and One with my Lord. He has written extensively for numerous organisations, such as: The Gospel Coalition, Desiring God and Living Out.

In addition to the plenary sessions, there will be time to interact together in workshop-seminars on different topics that are essential for healthy multiplying churches. In these sessions the main focus will be on working through how union with Christ defines and redefines all areas of personal and corporal identity.

IDOP 2025 - International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Tomorrow afternoon we'll join the IDOP 2025 - International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church promoted the WEA - World Evangelical Alliance.

This event, organised by the Evangelical Church in San Lazzaro and La Piazza Church in Budrio, will have Angelo Currò from Open Doors Italy as a guest speaker, who will encourage us to unite in prayer with our sisters and brothers from the Suffering Church who have no voice and suffer persecution across the world because of their faith in Christ Jesus.

"We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh." 2Corinthians 4:8-11

Serving & Celebrating with our community at AgriBu 2025

From the 2nd to the 5th of October we'll be at AgriBu 2025.

Italian history is full of harvest festivals, which have become the typical fairs of today' rural Italy, and which still provide a moment of community for families and friends at the end of summer. It is therefore common to see families with young kids enjoying good food and good music together, as well as parents and teenage children cooking and serving together at tables.

This reminds us of God's missional generosity, in the sowing and harvesting of both the produce of the earth and the Gospel of grace: "For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:10-11 

So, this weekend, as a church family, we'll be taking part in AgriBu 2025 in various ways, organising a special edition for the restart of our after-school club, MySpace, and serving at the various related events.

This is one of the many ways we want to serve and celebrate with our community, make new friends and strengthen existing ones, and live out and share the joy of the Gospel

One to One discipleship Groups

From Monday the 22nd to Saturday the 27th of September, we'll have our One to One - Bible Study and Prayer meetings, where we'll meet in small groups in Budrio and Molinella, to read God's Word and to pray for one another, interceding missionally for our community and the advancement of God's Kingdom globally!
