Boxing Day Project - A Box to say Thank You!

A few years ago we've read this article from answersingenesis.org explaining the tradition and meaning of Boxing Day!

History of Boxing Day
The most likely story dates back hundreds of years to Britain. When on December 26 wealthy families would give their servants and tradespeople a gratuity of either money or a "Christmas box" full of food and gifts to thank them for their service and for working all day Christmas Day. Historically, Boxing Day was about recognizing those who serve and thanking them for their service. Holidays, such as Boxing Day, can be used for the glory of God. Even if Boxing Day isn’t a traditional holiday where you come from, perhaps consider incorporating the idea of thanking those who serve into your Christmastime celebrations. In doing so you will show others the love of Christ and open up doors to share the real meaning of the season—Jesus Christ, the greatest gift ever given to this world.

As church family we desire to share this beautiful biblical value of gratitude and to value those who work for the good of the community. In the days before Christmas and ending today we gave a simple box of chocolates to the volunteers of the Civil Protection, to the Firemen, to the Armed Forces, to the Emergency Deparment, to the Municipal Police, and to the mayor of Budrio to thank them for their service throughout this difficult year for our community and during the Christmas holidays!

What a beautiful way to translate the true meaning of Christmas into practice, with the gift that God made of his Son, who became man to give himself on the cross, giving us peace with God and the new life of His resurrection!

John 17:20-21

Christmas Truce Project Outreach - High School

Tomorrow morning we'll start our Christmas Truce Outreach Project at Budrio High School!

We'll engage with 10 classes engaging with the theme of the 1914 Christmas Truce!

World War I was ravaging a continent, leaving destruction and rubble in its wake, but from the midst of this dark conflict comes the story of the Christmas Truce of 1914. The Christmas Truce of 1914 has been called 'the miracle on the Western Front' when British and German troops came together to celebrate, share rations and small gifts and play a game of football. But these celebrations and truces did not last long. After Christmas Day, the footballers and soldiers returned to the trenches. The Christmas carols died down and the war sadly resumed.

With a team from Peak Trinity Church, Bakewell, UK, we'll challenge students to see how events like the Christmas Truce are worth celebrating, but they leave us longing for a lasting peace!

We believe that's the Peace only Jesus can give!

Then from 7pm families will arrive and we'll engage with the theme of Peace on Earth.

Jesus Christ is the only reason we can truly live peacefully with God. In Jesus, our fears in death are removed and replaced with the gift of eternal life. Jesus is the true God, and He is able to give us the true peace that nobody else can offer. Jesus said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
